Ernest Roy Stone was born in 1920 in Beaminster, Dorset (Beaminster Q3-1920 5A-639), son of Ernest Arthur and Daisy Ellen STONE (née PARSONS).

CWGC have his parents at Weymmouth in Dorset, however in the 1939 register they were at Seven Mile Tavern, Higham, father [27-3-1891] a caretaker/handyman/ special constable, mother [28-10-1889]. Also there was Violet B GREGORY [10-8-1915] single, tobacco shop assistant.


27 squadron RAF were involved at the end of 1944 in ground attack and air/jungle rescue duties in Burma. They moved to Dohazari on the 5th November 1944

From the log at National Archives:- On 5th November 1944 the squadron lost WO Roy McKay (Observer), F/Sgt (pilot) John Banfield and LAC Stone (Air Gunner) were in JM.262 which crashed on landing at Dohazari, killing all three airmen.

http//aviation-safety.net has :- Bristol Beaufighter Mk X, 27 Sqdn RAF, reg NV322 en route nr Chittagong. Pilot reported bird strike at 600 ft, Aircraft dropped from formation, crashed out of control and burned. All 3 aboard killed (there were 4 on board).

Buried immediately at an unknown place, they were moved to Chittagong War Cemetery on 20th December 1944
